Mojo's Spring Fling Criterium

Presented by Anam Gathering.  Free Youth & Junior racing by Slimmer's Automotive Service.

A brave group encountered windy 40 to 50 degree temps with a heavy rain during the Cat 3/4 race. The usual March weather struck at the 3rd Fling. The racing was fierce and the weather conditions helped the breakaways.

Cat 4/5 series leader Adrian O'Hara leads the Mojo series but got 2nd on race day. KCOI teamate Lyle Reynolds, both in the final break worked like a horse. Team X's Dean Parker infiltrated the break to score 4th, his highest placing of the year. Chris Chorice continued his fine spring form with 2nd and Wheatland makes an way in the top 6th with Keith Walberg's placing.

The downpour shredded the  3/4  field with Major V for Victory proving that today's armed forces are waterproof. Fast Freddy Smelser continued his strong showing and Jayhawk Alum Rob Kelly does it southern style with 3rd place. Roby was on spring break from Tennessee or Kentucky. Phill Todd struggled but maintained his 2nd place in the series points.

Dryer conditions allowed the Cat 1/2/3's to race at full speed and the Bike Source sweep was complete. During the race Big Andy C. was off the front with Mills and Jensen to put on a good show. Team X's Lance Sulzen and Bike Source Bill Stotle danced a game of cat and mouse for a few laps.

Team X's Austin Fick attacked the Cat 5's with 4 laps to go and was absorbed to finish out the points, KSU's Gerald Hart and KU's Joe Christman came down to a photo finish with Gerald grabbing 1st place honors.

Tammy Spray and Nan Gatewood had a good training ride with a couple of hard sprints. By now the dry roads made racing a bit more fun.

Beginner women's newcomer Krisitin Goodwin road strongly to first place followed by KCBC's Kera and newcomer Nicole Greive.

Brain and Spine rider Ben Robertson from Austin, Texas wins the Juniors while Team X swept all the lower spots save for 4th. Ironically Mr. Wright' the 4th finished as such.

Junior Bee's kept on buzzing and all the youth placed 1st! Remember, you are never last if you come out to race. Those at home are in last place.
