The final Cat 3/4 Sprint of the Spring Fling. Phil Todd (Bike Shack) scored a 1 point series win over JB Vowell (Sante Fe Trail). Jim Whittaker (GP VeloTek) placed 4th over all and was Phil's closest sprinting threat the last two races of the series.

9th Annual Mojo's Spring Fling Criterium Series

Presented by Anam Gathering.  Free Youth & Junior racing by Slimmer's Automotive Service.

The McClaren team rolled in and out of the station with no other passengers. All four engines stayed away at one of the fastest spring fling crits ever with a reported average speed of 28 mph. The top 5 swept the series podium with Andy Chocha the best of the rest in 6th. KCBC’s Tom Luke placed 6th at the last crit with Team X’s Dallas Burnam a close 7th. The "Blue Train" had plenty of reasons to wave this spring season at the Mojo's Spring Fling.

The final fling or Showdown at the OK Corral whatever your pick the Cat 3/4 racin was smoking at Clinton Lake. The last race was a showdown between the two resident sheriff’s Major JB of Santa Fe Trail and Bike Shack’s Phil Todd. Separated by only two points JB and Phil played cat and mouse the entire ľ race. Phil Todd’s faster sprint placed him 2nd on the day and 1st in the series. In fact after 6 weeks of racing they were tied and Phil took the tie. 3rd place series Cowtowner Ryan Halloran sat out the race and GP Velotek’s Jim Whittaker held off future teammate Mark Smelser and KCOI’s Chris Hess to finish 3rd on the day and 4th in the series.

KCOI’s Adrian O’Hara in one of his last acts as a Cat 4 rider won the Category 3/.4 and 4/5 race! Adrian benefited from the dente of the top Cat 3 riders but in the 4/5 field his aggressive sprinting and riding were contested but to no avail. Adrian the rocket won the day with Chris Chorice’s placing 2nd on the day with 3rd in the series. Adrian remarked to the Alta Sport staff at the beginning of the series that he was going to win it, and that he did just that.

Tammy Spray (Free State Racing) dominated the Spring Fling with her powerful lead from the front sprinting style. KCBC women's squad outnumbered Tammy but couldn't out gun her. Sprinter Nan Gatewood (Wheatland) also showed her spring form with a late surge to place 3rd on the series. Tri-Biker Juli Watkins (KCBC) placed 2nd in the series. Long distance endurance athlete Shari Woiwood (KCBC) improved her sprinting and placed 4th in the Mojo's series.

The new women's cat 4 race was a success with good sized fields most days. KCBC's dynamic duo of Kera McDonald and Marian Smith tagged teamed the competition to sweep the top two spots. Alta-Sport expects good things to come from these two new women racers!

Jason Schupp (Cowtown) improved as the series progressed and won the Final Spring Fling crit and placed 4th overall in the series. Joe Christman (GP VeloTek) and Austin Fick (GP VeloTek) placed behind Jason the final race. KSU sprinting ace Gerald "the glasses" Hart placed 4th the last race and 3rd in the series. GP VeloTek's Joe Christman and Austin Fick battled it out for a 1-2 finish with the series.

Thanks to Coach Ron Wade and the Oz Jr's for driving up to Lawrence every Saturday. Ron's support has really grown his team and the junior side of Kansas cycling. The action was thick each weekend with Oz, Team X, Sante Fe, and GP VeloTek rider's racing hard for the top spots.

The Junior A's series race was won by Chris Hall (Team X) with Hervey Wright of Oz Jr's and GP VeloTek's Adam Lang in second and third respectively. Chris and Adam instigated many of the race series attacks and breaks and Hervey and Preston of Oz's improved their ability to cover them. By the last few races everyone seemed to be on equal footing. GP's Austin Fick and Joe Schmalz who both went on Spring break also figured prominently in race day tactics. Garrick Valverde (GP VeloTek) will be remember for his long solo attack during one of the spring flings.

Great job to all the Junior B's or Power Bee's... Keep it up.

Shari Woiwood places 4th in Women's 3/4's.

Sprinter Tammy Spray takes 1st overall in Women's 3/4's.

KCBC's Juli Watkin's places 2nd overall in the Women's 3/4 race.
