Coaches corner:

USA Cycling Elite Licensed Coach Jim Whittaker had this to say about the Vinland course. "The 12 mile isn't the hardest course around but with enough wind and a few motivated racers the race can be very challenging. Being longer in nature proper hydration and nutrition is essential. Racing 3 or more hours you'll need 600 to 900 calories total based on your body size. Finishing weak, hungry or thirsty means you didn't pay careful attention to your energy and hydration needs.

Corner one puts you heading south.

Going south with only 3 rollers on this side of the course.

The first hill going south, just over the other side is the finish line hill.

Danny Boy Hill, the 2nd hill going south on the course.

Danny Boy Hill, a great launch pad for the winning move.

Danny Boy hill, also the feed zone.

Clouds will make the hills easier.

The finish line hill, not the hardest around but enough to feel it at 60 or more miles.

The finish line, minus the paint. Just 25 meters over the top of Danny Boy Hill.

Lama Lady Hill approaching corner #2

They don't call it Lama Lady hill for nothin

Spectators abound on Lama Lady Hill.

Corner #2, east bound on the course. A couple of rollers follow.

Go east young man.

More rollers.

Heading east past honeybee hollow. The shorter rollers may hurt if the wind is whippin.

Check your heart rate, last hill before almost 4 miles of flats.

Fried corn and legs if not careful. Here comes the flat road heading north.

Corner Three headed south. Be sure to eat and drink if no one is attacking.

Hope you are going faster than this.

Here comes corner #4.

After almost 4 miles of flats this hill hurts.

The small hill at Hogman heaven is noticable. Notice anything else?

Bury your nose when you turn west.

The open plains going west gets the most wind.

Exposed...

The first tier of the biggest two tiered hill on the course.

Going up up up.

Enough climb to hurt. Rising to 1020 feet.
