The easy basics.
1. Insulin a hormone, is secreted into your blood after you eat. Insulin drives blood glucose (sugar) into your muscle cells.
2. Eating a carb/protein drink vs a carb only drink will significantly increase this insulin response.
3. The glucose entering your muscle cells is stored as glycogen. The next time you workout you'll draw upon your glycogen supplies to provide a majority of your exercise energy needs.
4. Low glycogen stores = low power, heavy legs, or worse the dreaded bonk.
5. Drinking the right recovery beverage will increase the amount and speed at which your limited glycogen stores are replenishment. So think before you drink.
6. Drinking a carb/protein drink DURING and AFTER your workout is the best. Accelerade during and Endurox post exercise. The specific ratio of carbs to protein makes a difference and Accelerade and Endurox use the clinically proven 4 to 1 ratio or R4.
