Introducing
GP Velotek the Kansas City & Lawrence area newest cycling team. The
teams hard work and tactical drills in the month of March are paying off
the early part of April. Spring success at the Spring Fling and recent
Bazaar, KS Road Race is the result of using March races as training. The
junior team continues to impress with their team work and tactical
smarts at the Spring Fling. GP Junior Adam Lang continues to grown in
stature on and off the bike and his fellow teammates continue to
impress. In particular the attack duo of Garrick Valverde and Dalton
Luper created a sizable gap at the final Spring Fling. Junior sprinter
Joe Schmalz showed again this spring why his sprint is the sprint to
beat.
Senior Velotek GP rider
Kurt Albrecht continues to improve and is close to a break through
result. Kurt's strong 3rd place finish at the Bazaar Road Race is a
harbinger of things to come. Another harbinger playing a support role
this Spring is Big Mike Moore and it's only a matter of time before the
BIG results start rolling in.
Evan Solida placed and
excellent 3rd in the Bazaar road race and continues to play a strong
support role at the Spring Fling for Cat 3 sprinter Jim Whittaker. With
Evan's help Jim finished 4th over all in the Series with three top six
results. Evan looks forward to Perry Roubaix and longer events where his
natural ability will shine. Cat 3 newcomer and our newest team member
Mark Smelser shows his versatility with 5th in the Cat 3 Spring Fling
series and a 2nd over all at the God's Country Duathlon. Mark's a
student at Kansas State University and is an explosive new comer to road
cycling with a strong off-road background.
KU's Matt Spencer and Gary
Calton are both new to road racing this Spring and are in the top 10 in
the Category 5's.
