About
Joe: Joe loves racing and wants to be a strong team rider for the
Univeristy of Kansas.
Hardest day on the bike: I had some bad
experiences on my bike this past year,
but I have to say the worst one was at the 5th race in
the Summer Sizzler Series, the Velotek Grand Prix
Crit. It was in the Cat. 5 beginners race, the first
time that I ever rode a Crit. I was hanging on with
the Santa Fe Trail’s team on a short, fast course.
They were working well as a team, and I ended up just
sitting down in second position while they did the
work. I felt great throughout the whole race and was
pumped for the last couple of laps. When we had one
lap to go, I bolted out from the pack and made a
strong run. At the first turn, I was carrying too much
speed, and I ended up going wide and crashing.
Other
current athletic experience: Racing duathlons and tirathlons for the
past two yeasrs. Joe likes cycling because of the intensity of racing.

Dream goals:
Joe's a new rider but has some insite for even
newer riders.
Do I have any advice for new cyclists? Well I’m still
very much new to the sport, but I do have a few
insights. First off, relax. The first couple of races
you will find out how the races are run, how people
ride, and how you measure up to the other riders.
Second, learn how to control yourself. You don’t want
to use all of your energy on the first laps and have
nothing for the rest of your race. Learn how to pace
yourself so you can become a stronger rider. Next, you
need to show up to the race with plenty of time to get
ready. Finally, when you’re racing, “It’s all or
nothing. There is no in-between.”
