Cycle Works Twilight Bike Race

The
final twilight was an intense battle for the overall in the A's. Lance
Sulzen and Mike Koons both of Team X were tied after the 5 race
series. Lance and Mike attacked each other and Mike won by the slimmest of
battles. Team X teammates for the most part remained neutral in the
inter-squad rivalry. John Hackman had a strong showing and moved to 3rd in
the race series when Mike "Crash" Cragun was MIA.
Chris Hess the heads down Cat B champ saved his energy for the following weekend's races. Craig Bissell and Dean Parker tied for the night and Dean one the tie by winning the evenings last race. Dean finished 2nd in the series results and Craig held 3rd.
Spectators
were treated to an aggressive battle in the C's. Similar to the A's. Team
X's Joe Schmalz and Austin Fick were tied for the series going into the
nights races. The battle royale came down to the final nights race the
dreaded "Win-n-out". After the neutral lap Austin Fick showed impressive
sprinting improvement to beat Ben Robertson. A technical problem required a
restart but Austin's win stood. Ben won the restart and 2nd in the
"Win-n-out", Joe won the next lap for 3rd in the last race of the night.
Both Team X Juniors were gracious in victory and defeat. Knowing only too
well that one doesn't improve with out the best in competition.
Trooper Jill Thole of Bike's and Boards placed 4th in the C's and showed her gutsy racing style all series long. Jill was our only consistent woman competitor and has a bright future in cycling.
